CLOUT / How to play
YOUR GUIDE TO THE SPOTLIGHTHow to play CLOUT
CLOUT is a free online influencer and brand-building strategy game. Grow a following, negotiate sponsorships and handle the consequences of your marketing decisions.
You play directly in your browser, with no account or download required. All money, partnerships and events in the game are fictional.
Start your CLOUT career1. Choose an influencer or a brand
Choose influencer to build a career around your personality and voice, or brand to build a business people care about. Use your own name, your real business name or something entirely invented.
The role changes the framing of opportunities and your weekly running costs. Neither path guarantees an easier career.
2. Name your character and choose your ambition
After selecting a role, enter your influencer name or brand name. Then choose what you want to build:
- The spotlight: reach 100,000 followers.
- Financial freedom: build a £25,000 cash cushion.
- Your own empire: reach 50,000 followers and £15,000 cash.
Every ambition also requires trust of at least 60. Once you achieve it, a larger target unlocks. Select See my entrance, check your name, then select Make my entrance.
3. Understand your four scores
You begin with 1,000 followers, £5,000, 70 trust and 80 energy. Your scores stay visible while you play.
| Score | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Audience | Your following. Reach can help you grow, but a bigger number alone does not protect your reputation. |
| Cash | Your campaign budget and financial cushion. Paid choices and weekly running costs reduce it. |
| Trust | Your reputation, from 0 to 100. Trust affects positive income and whether you can complete an ambition. |
| Energy | Your capacity to keep creating. Below 25, audience gains are reduced. Rest helps you rebuild. |
4. Make decisions and face the consequences
Each completed decision advances one week. The choices show costs, likely effects and, where applicable, a chance of backlash. Outcomes include chance: a risky campaign can work, and a careful choice still has a cost.
Normal turns include weekly running costs of £150 as an influencer or £300 as a brand. An upfront choice cost is separate from those costs. Trust can change positive payments, so the headline offer may differ from the net change shown afterwards.
Read the outcome after each decision. It explains what happened and shows the changes to all four scores.
5. Play the connected opening story
A new career begins with an eight-part storyline. A sponsor offers a quick deal. You decide whether to accept, negotiate a checked trial or decline. Those decisions return later when the sponsor’s claims are questioned.
You will also develop a campaign angle, choose a visual direction and arrange a launch sequence. In the sequence challenge, tap all three pieces in your chosen order, then select Launch this sequence.
After the opening, your career continues with a shuffled set of opportunities and setbacks. The regular event set cycles before repeating; some decisions also trigger a connected follow-up.
6. Recover, continue or start again
If your energy reaches zero or your cash drops below the next week’s running costs, a recovery week becomes available. It restores energy and provides freelance income without running costs.
Progress saves automatically in the current browser. Use Home to return to the landing page and Continue your game to return to your career. Starting a new career replaces that browser’s saved game after confirmation.
Saves do not automatically transfer between devices, browsers or website addresses. Private browsing and clearing browser data can remove your progress.
